A shrimp cutter with soul

A shrimp cutter with soul
Lefty is a garnalenkotter, a Dutch shrimp cutter, whose maritime heritage is celebrated rather than hidden. Outside she keeps her black hull and a wood-trimmed wheelhouse. Inside, every surface was chosen to deepen the feeling of being aboard a real ship, warm and layered rather than sleek.
Varnish, brass and timber beams
Mahogany panelling glows under a mirror-like varnish, brass portholes frame the canal and exposed beams give every room the intimacy of a ship's cabin. Ochre walls add warmth to the timber, so the whole interior feels like it has been lived in for years from the day it was finished.
The saloon at its heart
At the heart of the boat lies the saloon: a curved mustard velvet sofa on a raised timber floor, a cast-iron stove, cascading greenery and shelves of treasured objects. A tucked-away berth beneath the beams completes a home of rare warmth and character. Not decorated, collected.
