Light, oak and a bath at centre stage
Johannes is a Wad- en Sontvaarder, a traditional Dutch trading ship, transformed into a serene and light-filled home. The hold was opened up to the sky with skylights, portholes punctuate the white walls along both sides, and a glass hatch set into the black floor offers a glimpse into the level below, a small surprise that reminds you that you are on a ship.
Bespoke oak throughout
Oak joinery runs from one end of the ship to the other and gives the interior its warmth. In the kitchen, an oak island sits beneath a floating hood. Further along, the sleeping platform steps up in layers of oak, turning the change in floor height into a piece of furniture in its own right.
A bedroom built around a bath
The signature of Johannes is the bedroom, where a bath set in an oak surround takes the centre of the room, framed by portholes and hanging greenery. It is the kind of gesture a house rarely allows and a ship makes possible. The result is refined and effortless: calm, bright and quietly generous, the way a home on the water should feel.
